Today marks the start of MENTAL HEALTH MONTH. Throughout October in NSW, we focus on ways to raise awareness about mental health across all sections of the community. This month encourages all of us to think about our mental health and wellbeing, regardless of whether we may have a lived experience of mental illness or not. It also gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of good mental health in our everyday lives and encourages help seeking behaviours when needed. What can you do today to help improve your mental wellbeing? What have you found helps boost your mood or keeps you grounded? Everyone finds their own way to wellbeing - what works for you. Sharing may help others.

Our ladies enjoy taking part in the Positive Life

Our ladies enjoy taking part in the Positive Life Skills 360 Program headed by our fabulous Case Worker Kylie. The latest session involved an activity creating vision boards for how they wanted their lives to develop. The women love taking part and also getting to know each other better - especially when it includes a delicious dinner of tacos and salad, with cheese and spicy meat. Held on a Friday evening, this is a great way to end the week.

Each month we turn away 15 women due to lack of availability at our Shelter as we constantly run at capacity. We receive a small percentage of Government funds and we fundraise tirelessly to keep our service operational - with more funds we could do more. We are thankful for the ongoing support we receive from our community and are reaching out to see if any individuals and/or businesses would be interested in coming on board as sponsors. This can involve varying amounts of financial support, so if this is something you might consider please contact our Business Manager Kirstie at businessmanager@nbws.org.au We can discuss options and ways we can work together to support women and children in need in our community. 💙💙

You have no idea just how well received these were with one of our lovely ladies commenting, "best fish pie ever!!” So thank you - these gestures are really appreciated and can make someone's day knowing people care enough to offer something like a lovely lunch. 🙏🙏🫶🫶

It's not too late to join this month's ‘Chores f

It's not too late to join this month's ‘Chores for a Cause’ and raise funds for the Northern Beaches Women's Shelter. The campaign runs throughout September and empowers young people aged 8-18 years to support women and children in need in the Northern Beaches by completing chores in exchange for money they can then donate to their local Shelter - that's us!!. We would be thrilled if kids could raise up to $25 for their local Shelter. It's our hope that 'Chores for a Cause' month will start conversations about gender equality and challenge some preconceived ideas about tasks, chores and who's responsibility these are! There is no such thing as girls' work and boys' work 😃.

OUR UPCOMING BASSIKE Luncheon event is SOLD OUT. This fifth annual @bassike luncheon is hosted by co-founders Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan, proudly supporting the Northern Beaches Women's Shelter with special MC Alison Brahe Daddo. The event is at Manly Pavilion on October 25. All proceeds from this event will be donated to NBWS to support ongoing operational costs. Look out for news on our Annual Gala to be held Saturday April 6th, 2024 and get in early for tickets.
