We’re thrilled to announce new NBWS President (and longtime Chair of the Board) Rosy Sullivan is a deserving finalist in the Westfield Warringah Mall Local Hero Awards.
The Shelter is now in the running for a crucial $10,000 grant we’d use to purchase bedroom dividers for the privacy and enhanced well-being of the Shelter’s residents.
A public vote decides who wins, with voting closing July 1, so please cast yours now:

Grown women living in cramped twin-share accommodation: each one deserves the basic privacy and dignity of a small space of their own into which they can retreat.
The installation of room dividers would address this privacy issue and dignify the temporary living arrangements of the women reliant on our crisis accommodation.
Please help us secure this important funding by voting for Rosy as a Westfield Local Hero – and PLEASE SHARE!
Thank you all.
In other news, June began with an unforgettable night at our annual Gala Fundraising Dinner at stunning Manly Pavilion. A record number of attendees embraced the 1920s Gatsby theme with gusto, looking a million bucks while raising nearly $130,000 towards the Shelter’s ongoing operation.
With costs of around $600,000 annually keeping the doors open and the Shelter professionally staffed, the Gala remains the cornerstone of our fundraising calendar, and we warmly thank each and every person who participated with such generosity.
A wonderful record of the evening is available on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NBWomensShelter) – please enjoy the stunning images by AGNSW photographer Felicity Jenkins, who donated her time and talent on the night.
After formally naming James Griffin MP our Patron, we also welcomed five exceptional new Board members at the AGM on Thursday 14 June, sponsored by the Novotel Manly Pacific.
We’re delighted to have gained the combined expertise of Eva Burgess, Libby Gauld, Beth Lawsen, Sherry Midgley and Elizabeth O’Brien and look forward to introducing them to Shelter operations and our unbeatable support network in the months to come.
We also chose the Gala and AGM to launch our Ambassador Program. We’re very proud to announce former Shelter President Julia Lever; the ever-versatile Vic Larusso (traffic reporter, TV & radio presenter and auctioneer); and Luisa Manfredini of mm+j architects and WoManly as our inaugural Ambassadors. We thank them for accepting the job with such enthusiasm.
We have several other exciting new initiatives in the planning stages and will keep you informed as they enter execution. There are many opportunities for our NBWS supporters to get involved in future events, awareness building and fundraisers.
With our new NBWS website under construction, in the interim we invite you and your own network to keep in touch with us via our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/NBWomensShelter
If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out – and please don’t forget to vote for Rosy!
